Shining Cliff
shining cliff news
Welcome to Shining Cliff our new centre. This exciting project adds a new dimension to our products and services. Lindley Educational Trust are committed to providing high quality experiences that help change the lives of young people. With over 40 years experience to call on, the Trust recognised the need for a small dedicated centre providing something a little special.

The Shining Cliff experience is certainly unique. Starting with a 10 minute walk into the heart of the ancient woodland, you get a real feeling of tranquillity and excitement. We understand that young people need to feel safe and comfortable before learning and development can take place.

Many of our programmes will run within the wood itself. With its own crags, rivers and lakes and over 100-acres of mature woodland, Shining Cliff has everything on its doorstep. The centre can sleep up to 18 people in 4 comfortable rooms, there is a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, dining area and lounge.

Shining Cliff Image Our programmes are designed to help young people develop in a number of ways that include;
• Enhanced confidence and self-esteem
• Respect for others through living and working together
• Appreciation of the natural environment
• Raising aspirations

We recognise that you know your young people and our approach is to work in partnership with you at all stages. A full range of activities are available which include;
Bushcraft, shelter building, fire lighting, abseiling, rock climbing, night walks, environmental and conservation work, pond dipping and teambuilding tasks.

SPY - Bushcraft Weekend

The last weekend in October saw 12 youth workers from St. Peters Youth (SPY), Tameside descend on Shining Cliff woods. They spent the weekend learning bushcraft skills first hand.  Topics included; fire lighting, campcraft, outdoor cooking and shleter building. It was a extremely wet weekend which certainly added to the challenge - testing their wits and ability to stay warm and dry.

Renovation Works commence

We commenced the project of upgrading our Shining Cliff Centre in early October. Being an ex YHA, Shining Cliff was set up for adults and young people, individuals and groups. When we are finished Shining Cliff will be a dedicated youth Centre, offering 18 beds, a modern kitchen, dinning room and lounge area. Set in the middle of the wood has meant that we had some challenges to overcome;

        • Water is fed by a spring and passes through a UV filter, which makes the water safe to drink
        • 3 composting toilets are on order from Canada, this environmentally friendly solution was essential due to the remoteness of the site
        • Solar panels will produce the hot water for the showers
