Using Sharp Tools 1 - Knives and Saws

This practical day aims to provide you with some width and depth of understanding as well as confidence in the use of knives and saws.

Designed especially for those who work in Outdoor Education this day will make a difference.

“This was an excellent days training for knife skills.  The pattern of the day was very much focused on doing rather than talking about it.  You gave us very clear instructions and lots of positive reinforcement during the practical sessions.  You managed to have everyone totally focused throughout the whole day(it is very unusual for our group to be so quiet but there were long periods of silence as everyone was concentrating so hard!) and everyone was very proud of the work that they managed to achieve”.   Paul (Cornwall Outdoors)

The day will cover such subjects as:

  • Fundamental Safety considerations
  • Choice of knives
  • Variety of techniques to suit different tasks/clients
  • Choice of wood for given tasks
  • Maintenance of tools
  • Knife Law issues
  • Types of Saw for different tasks

Throughout the day you will make a wide variety of items to take away along with a certificate of attendance.
