Come and join us on Monday, 5th December, 2022 for an evening of inspiring mountain talks!
Featured Guests at the evening are:
Jim Langley: The Alpine Zone
Jim is an International Mountain Leader and one the of UK’s most knowledgeable mountain ecologists. He is based in Snowdonia and is well known for his extensive knowledge of flora, fauna and geography of the UK mountains and European Alps.
He is the author of ‘The Alps-A Natural Companion’, a visual tour de force of the geology and alpine flowers of the European Alps. Jim is a fountain of knowledge and regularly publishes articles aimed at mountaineers, outdoor educators and guides. His summers are spent guiding groups across the Alps and he has intimate knowledge of the Walker’s Haute Route. His talk focuses on his experiences as a guide and will also take you on a journey to discover the stunning plant life that exists in the high mountain environment.
Jim says he is “happiest on a big scrambling alpine ridge or running fresh tracks whilst off-piste skiing”.
Nigel Vardy: Over The Horizon
Nigel has climbed across the world for over the past 30 years, set mountaineering records and spoken to schools and businesses across Europe.
His talk covers from his childhood to present and how this has guided his life in the outdoors from the peaks of Derbyshire to the mountains of Nepal.
Frostbite in Alaska, appendicitis in Greenland, near drowning in Borneo, rope failure in the Kumbu, reported missing in Annapurna. Would you go climbing with this man?
Some people call him brave, some call him mad. To face the thin air at high altitude takes a bit of both, but to Nigel , there is nothing like being on a high mountain. Losing limbs to severe frostbite would put off all but the few, but to Nigel it was the springboard to climb, achieve and conquer.
As Nigel says “I don’t want to die in an unused body”.
