OUTDOOR LEADER TRAINING
Mountain Leader Training & Assessment
The Mountain Leader scheme is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland. If you love being out in the mountains and want to share your enthusiasm with others, become a Mountain Leader and you’ll never look back.
Before enrolling on a training course you need to register on the scheme: https://www.mountain-training.org/qualifications/walking/mountain-leader
To become a Mountain Leader you need to attend a 6 day training course. Our courses start in the Peak District and are based at Hollowford Centre, providing an ideal base with comfortable accommodation and all meals.
Our friendly instructors cover all aspects of the syllabus including navigation, environmental considerations, implications mountain weather, leadership and how to manage mountain hazards such as rock outcrops and rivers.
We conclude our training courses with 3 days in Snowdonia, where we are able to explore a more rugged landscape and undertake an overnight expedition and wild camp.
Thinking of booking on our assessment course? You do need to have logged the pre-requisite number of quality mountain days and overnight camps. The assessment is based at Hollowford concluding with a mountain expedition taking place in the Lake District. We are happy to have a chat in advance as regards where you are at and what further experiences might help as you prepare for assessment.
